About
Welcome to De Las Sombras! Created by Yazmine Hernandez (aka Yazmine De Las Sombras) in 2025 as a form of self-expression and community building. As a Queer, Chicana, Santa Muerte Devotee, Bruja, & self-taught Artista (on top of many other things) I wanted to create a safe space that allows people from all walks of life to connect through creativity, education, spirituality, and resistance. I also wanted a space of my own where I could share my offerings to the world and allow my ideas to come to life & to also live in the homes of others. Here, you will mainly find pieces centered around the multiple communities I am a part of but just because you are not a part of these communities does not mean you can’t engage with me or my work. On the contrary, I hope De Las Sombras can serve as a bridge between people from all walks of life to come together and learn more about each other. Especially during times like these where we see more separation and individualism among the working class citizens of the world when we need more community and collective resistance against the tyranny and fascism we continue to face across the globe. If you’re reading this, thank you & welcome! I can’t wait to experience what this journey has to offer for all of us:)
Throughout most of my school years I participated in programs that fed my thirst for knowledge and creativity but none quenched that thirst for something greater than the YPAR program I participated in during my high school years. This YPAR (Youth Participatory Action Research) program in high school introduced to me how creativity, education, spirituality (specifically indigenous practices), and activism are so valuable for not only youth but humans as a whole to better understand and connect with ourselves and each other. Thanks to this YPAR program and the amazing Dr. Ricardo Martinez, I was able to imagine and create a better future for myself and now with De Las Sombras, a better future for the collective.
I am also a Santa Muerte Devotee, going on 2 years now. It is thanks to My Flakita that I have the courage to be out & open about my true identity, beliefs, and gifts after hiding them away for so many years. That is why I have decided to create the first of my creations in Her name and in Her honor. I have seen and experienced how demonized Santísima Muerte & Her Devotees are and recognize that it is also my responsibility as her daughter to show the world what it truly means to be devoted to Death. Because it is the certainty of Death that makes us human and if we didn’t have Death, we wouldn’t have Life either. Santa Muerte has shown me the many ways in which I/we must value our short lives and I hope to help shed and shine this light on my Beautiful Bony Lady and my fellow Devotees through De Las Sombras as well.
I have also participated in classes/sessions with The Past Life Witch aka the wonderful Chelsea Camin to further my spiritual practice, knowledge, and experience. I am currently participating in cohort 2 of Their Safe & Spellbound class and loook forward to continuing these classes so I can offer my own spiritual guidance and wisdom to the collective in the future!
